We are a group of citizens deeply concerned about a proposal to build an industrial scale grain-processing mill in Goodwood. Our group is called the Goodwood Conservation Association and we are residents from all the neighbourhoods of Goodwood and across the Township of Uxbridge. We want to save our hamlet from inappropriate industrial development.
Goodwood is a small rural community of about 700 people nestled on an environmentally sensitive area called the Oak Ridges Moraine. This area is protected from unbridled development, especially industrial-scale development. Yet this mill has been foisted on our community using a loophole in the law. The proposal calls for the mill to be built on rural land, close to residential neighbourhoods, a public school, and next to sensitive farms. We are standing up and saying no to this proposal, but we need help. The odds are against us, but we aim to upend the odds and stop this proposal.
We are not against business. But we think this business is not right for our community. We are pushing for the company to locate in an industrial park.
Uxbridge Council is hungry for tax dollars and has given every indication that it wants this mill to be built despite strenuous objections from the residents. But our group is just as determined to stop the mill, and we will with your help. Consider making a donation, volunteering, or becoming a member to stay informed.
